The Greens have welcomed moves by the Government to boost the supply of housing but say that care must be taken to stop repeating the planning disasters of the past.
“Boosting housing around transport hubs make sense and we welcome this focus from the Government. But for this to be successful we need to ensure that residents will have access to high quality, frequent public transport. We simply can’t afford another Mount Barker style fiasco," said Greens Housing Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.
“Additionally, these developments must include appropriate green space, comply with energy efficiency standards and have access to services and amenities”.
“It’s vital that new housing projects meet the needs of the community, not developers. The Greens have been calling for new developments to include 30 per cent social housing. The Government should back these moves and slash the public housing wait list.”
