Tour Down Under highlights need for first rate cycling infrastructure

12 January 2024

The Greens have called on the State Government to improve South Australia's cycling infrastructure as the 2024 Tour Down Under beings today.

“While we proudly host the premier cycling event in the Southern Hemisphere, we continue to lag behind with second-rate cycling infrastructure," Greens Transport Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC.

“In February last year, Parliament’s Public and Active Transport Committee handed down its report, which recommended that the Government begins a trial of separated bike infrastructure and traffic calming measures and commence planning for a state-wide, integrated separated cycling network.”

“Sadly, almost a year has passed with no significant action from the Transport Minister on these recommendations. Rather than sinking more money roads and tunnels, it’s time for the Government to make cycling infrastructure a priority”, concluded Mr Simms.
