Greens welcome Hills public transport investment, but more needed

15 January 2024

The Greens have called for the State Government to improve their investment in public transport following the State Government’s announcement this weekend that it will increase weekly bus services in the Adelaide Hills.

“Mount Barker will continue to experience significant population growth, and while increasing bus services will alleviate some of the immediate pressure, it’s not a long-term solution to getting cars off the road and ease congestion,” said Greens Transport Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC.

“Without major investment, public transport will remain infrequent, unreliable and leave large parts of the Adelaide Hills underserviced. In February last year, Parliament’s Public and Active Transport Committee handed down its report, which recommended that the Government begins a trial of passenger rail services from Mount Barker to Adelaide. Unfortunately, Hills communities are still waiting for the promised trial of a passenger train."
