The Greens have welcomed news that the Malinauskas Government will introduce legislation to prevent landlords from not renewing a lease without reason.
“Existing laws allowing landlords to end a lease without reason have created a significant power imbalance in our rental market,” said Greens Housing Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.
“Axing no cause evictions has been one of the key priorities for housing advocacy groups and the Greens. We really welcome the Government moving on this.”
“We will examine this legislation closely to ensure that it provides renters with the protections they deserve, and we will continue to push for the government to take action on skyrocketing rent prices. Renters must be protected from unfair rent hikes.”
The Greens also welcomed the Government’s move to release submissions on its review of the Residential Tenancies Act. Just last month, a Greens motion calling on them to do so passed the Upper House.
