Greens call for free public transport to Royal Adelaide Show to ease pressures on families

4 September 2023

The State Government should make public transport to and from the Wayville Showgrounds free to reduce costs for families going to the Royal Adelaide Show, say the Greens.

“The Royal Adelaide Show is an iconic event enjoyed by many South Australian families. In the middle of an economic crisis, the exorbitant costs of car parking can make a visit to the Show a very expensive outing," said Greens Transport Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.

“The Showgrounds are well serviced by public transport — the State Government should make this free for the duration of the Show to reduce costs and ease congestion on our roads.”

According to media reports, car parking at the Show is costing up to $50 a day.

Currently, on public transport, seniors and children under 5 (accompanied by fare paying adult) can travel for free any time, while on weekends only children under the age of 15 can travel for free if accompanied by an adult.
