The Greens are calling for the State Government to expand public transport infrastructure to the Barossa Valley as the wine region has been announced as the location for a Gather Round match in 2025.
"World class events require world class public transport. The Gather Round is a great opportunity to showcase the Barossa Valley, but unfortunately our public transport infrastructure is simply not up to scratch," said Greens Transport Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.
"A regional train network taking commuters and tourists to the Barossa Valley would help connect the city to the regions. This would be particularly valuable in areas that have limited or no service from cabs and ride share like Ubers."
"This investment would be a real boost for events like Gather Round in the regions and provide a long term economic and community benefit."
In 2023, State Parliament’s Committee on Public and Active Transport recommended that regional rail be reactivated for SA.
