Greens Welcome Review of Residential Tenancies Act

15 November 2022

The Greens have welcomed the Malinauskas Government’s announcement today that it will review the Residential Tenancies Act.

“SA has some of the weakest protections for renters in all of Australia. From no cause evictions to many facing rent hikes, the balance is tipped far too heavily in favour of landlords,” said SA Greens Housing Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.

“This is an opportunity for the Government to listen to renters and fix SA’s broken rental system and bring it into line with other jurisdictions in Australia.”

The Greens have repeatedly called for the Government to end no-cause evictions, stamp out underhand rental bidding, and allow renting with pets. Mr Simms currently has a Bill before Parliament that would cap rents at the rate of CPI and restrict rent increases to just once every 24 months.
