The Greens have condemned the passage of a new tax on electric vehicles in the Upper House today.
“This tax will be a disincentive for motorists considering electric vehicles during this time of climate crisis,” said SA Greens Spokesperson for Manufacturing and Industry, Robert Simms MLC.
“Sadly it seems the reckless climate policies of the Liberals at a federal level are now infecting the Liberals here in SA.
“The Liberal Government are on the wrong track with this policy. It’s opposed by industry and consumers alike.
“It’s appalling that SA is now one of the few places in the world with a tax like this in place. It’s an embarrassing day for South Australia.
“The South Australian people will soon have an opportunity to have their say on this tax at the next election,” Mr Simms concluded.
The Motor Vehicles (Electronic Vehicle Levy) Amendment Bill passed the Legislative Council with the support of SA Best, and Advance SA. Only the Greens and Labor opposed it.
