Greens call for State Government action to ease cost of living pressures

4 May 2022

As interest rates rise for the first time in 11 years, the SA Greens are calling for the Malinauskas Government to take action to relieve the cost-of-living pressures faced by families in their first budget to be handed down next month.

“With increasing interest rates and soaring inflation, more and more South Australians are struggling to make ends meet,” said Greens Treasury Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC.

“The cost of fuel, housing, food and other essentials is skyrocketing, and the State Government can provide relief in next month’s budget. We’re calling for the government to make public transport free, introduce rent caps and subsidies, increase public sector wages, scrap public school fees and boost the investment in public housing. All of these things would help tackle the cost living crisis in our state.”

Mr. Simms will move a motion calling for the State Government to act later this afternoon.
