Greens call for Labor to reverse bus privatisation and beef up public transport funding

3 April 2023

The Greens have welcomed the State Government's move to reverse the privatisation of train and tram services and called for bus services to also be brought back into public hands.

"Yesterday's announcement is a big win for all those who have campaigned against privatisation. Public transport belongs in public hands. This principle should also apply to our bus services and the Government should now commence discussions with Torrens Transit, Busways and SouthLink to reverse these privatisations too," said Greens Transport Spokesperon Robert Simms MLC.

"This development alone however won't be enough to ramp up public transport use in our state. Labor should also beef up its funding for public transport in the next state budget to improve the quality of services on offer. Better frequency, reliability and accessibility is vital if we are to get more South Australians to use public transport."

"This is a big opportunity to get public transport in SA back on track," he said.
