Greens call for Government to put bus network back in public hands as drivers strike over pay and conditions

January 9 2023

The SA Greens are calling on the State Government to bring the bus network back into public hands as hundreds of Adelaide Metro bus drivers take industrial action against bus operator Torrens Transit today.

“The Greens stand in solidarity with our bus drivers in their fight for improved wages, safer working conditions, and a more reliable and efficient public transport system for us all”, said Greens SA Transport Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC.

“Yet again, what we are seeing is the disastrous effects of privatisation of essential services, where a private company puts profits before the needs of workers and the community. The Malinauskas Government must take action to put the bus network back in public hands where it belongs.”

In 2022 the Greens released a costed plan to upgrade the South Australian public transport system, including the Adelaide Hills and regions, and scrap fares across the network.
