The Greens have called on the State Government to improve South Australia's cycling infrastructure, as the state once again hosts the Tour Down Under.
"South Australia is hosting the biggest cycling race in the southern hemisphere yet we continue to lag behind with second-rate cycling infrastructure," Greens Transport Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC. “It's time for the State Government to provide support for active transport solutions that are better for people and the planet”, said Mr Simms.
The RAA and Bike Adelaide have both previously called for an additional $10m to be allocated to the State Bike Fund, which is less than 0.1% of the cost of the North-South Corridor upgrade.
“Rather than simply focusing on more roads and tunnels, it’s time for the Government to put their money where their mouth is to make cycling infrastructure a priority”, concluded Mr Simms.
