The Greens have urged the State Government to prioritize improvements to South Australia’s cycling infrastructure as the 2025 Tour Down Under kicks off today.
“While we take pride in hosting the premier cycling event in the Southern Hemisphere, our cycling infrastructure remains second-rate,” said Greens Transport Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC.
“In 2023, the Parliament’s Public and Active Transport Committee released its report, recommending that the State Government begin a trial of separated bike infrastructure, traffic calming measures, and planning for a state-wide integrated cycling network.
“Unfortunately, almost two years later, there has been little progress from the Transport Minister on these recommendations. If the Government really is serious about the importance of cycling to our state, it should take up the Greens’ proposal to allocate an additional $20 million over 4 years to the State Bike Fund to finally build the cycling infrastructure we need,” Mr. Simms concluded
