Plans by SA Pathology to slash its workforce are a slap in the face to nurses who have done the heavy lifting during the pandemic, say the Greens.
“Nurses have been at the frontline of our state’s response to this pandemic. They should be thanked for their work, instead they are now facing an uncertain future in the middle of an economic crisis. It’s a total slap in the face to those workers. It’s really outrageous,” said Greens Health Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.
“It’s also not clear what this will mean for the patient experience – particularly if we see a surge in Covid cases in the months ahead.”
“The State Government must step up here to ensure that these workers are treated with the respect they deserve. They should be offering thank you payments – not redeployments.”
The Greens have been calling for the SA Government to follow the lead of Victoria and NSW in providing thank you payments for healthcare workers at the frontline of the pandemic.
