The South Australian Greens are calling on the Malinauskas Government to urgently bring new safeguards on online alcohol deliveries into effect, after the Minister for Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence revealed on ABC radio this morning that it could be up to 18 months before the reforms commence.
Quotes attributable to Robert Simms MLC:
"It’s concerning to learn that South Australians could be waiting 18 months before these important safeguards actually come into effect.”
“South Australians shouldn’t have to wait 18 months for a two-hour safety pause that Parliament has already agreed is necessary to reduce alcohol-related harm.”
“The Malinauskas Government needs to be upfront about what is behind this lengthy implementation timeframe and what can be done to get these protections in place sooner.”
Quotes attributable to Melanie Selwood MLC:
“When it comes to domestic and family violence, we need to see action. Not years of waiting for safeguards that have already been agreed to.
“The Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence made these recommendations a year ago. So, to hear that it could be another 18 months before these protections take effect is deeply concerning.”
“Passing the legislation is an important step, but what matters to victim-survivors and their families is when those protections actually start. How many women will have to pay the price for this delay?”
