The Hon. R.A. SIMMS (15:01): I seek leave to make a brief explanation before addressing a question without notice to the Hon. Clare Scriven, representing the Minister for Correctional Services, on the topic of intervention programs for people on remand.
Leave granted.
The Hon. R.A. SIMMS: The Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence identified remand as a critical point of intervention for individuals charged with domestic and family violence offences, calling for sustained investment in targeted programs delivered during custody and through transition into the community. A recommendation of the royal commission was to deliver dedicated intervention programs for people on remand. My question to the minister representing the Minister for Correctional Services is:
1. Can the minister confirm how this government intends to adopt this recommendation?
2. Can the minister please explain how they could possibly implement this recommendation given the chronic understaffing that exists at the Adelaide Remand Centre?
3. Has the government allocated initial funding for DFSV intervention programs, for men in custody?
The Hon. C.M. SCRIVEN (Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, Minister for Forest Industries) (15:02): I thank the honourable member for his question, which I will refer to the minister in the other place and bring back a response.
