The Greens say Labor need to be more transparent with the people of South Australia about the process that led to the appointment of former Labor Minister Andrea Michaels to the Supreme Court.
Greens Leader Robert Simms quizzed the Attorney-General on the appointment in Question Time yesterday, but the Attorney-General failed to reveal whether other applicants were considered for the role or what level of consultation occurred with the state's judiciary.
"Appointments to the Supreme Court are some of our state's most critical appointments. Associate Justices are paid more than $400,000 a year and play a vital role in our justice system. These appointments should be subject to maximum transparency," said Mr Simms.
"Many South Australians will be alarmed to see a former government minister moving seamlessly from the cabinet table to the bench. Just weeks after another former minister was appointed to a plum post in London, it creates the impression of a ‘jobs for mates’ culture."
"Labor should come clean with the people of our state. What was the selection process and were other applicants considered for this role?"
