Labor fails housing test in its first year

19 March 2023

The Greens have renewed their calls for urgent action on the housing crisis gripping the state, as the Malinauskas Government celebrates a year in office.

“Today marks one year since the election of the Malinauskas Government. Sadly, they still don’t have a plan to deal with the housing crisis,” said Greens MLC Robert Simms.

“Ending rent bidding alone simply doesn’t cut it. The Government must commit to an overhaul of the Residential Tenancies Act to bring SA into line with other states - ending no cause evictions, capping rents and legislating in favour of renting with pets.”

“In addition, we need to see thousands of public houses - not simply hundreds - to help ease the demand for housing.”

“The Greens will continue to push for action on these things in the second year of the Malinauskas Government.”

Earlier today, Mr Simms joined Anti-Poverty Network SA protesters on the steps of Parliament House as they called for action on the housing emergency.
