The Labor and Liberal parties have banded together to block a Greens’ Bill in the state Upper House that would have imposed greater consultation requirements on private mines.
“This bill was seeking to amend the Mining Act to improve community consultation and ensure greater consideration of the environmental and health impacts of these mines,” said the SA Greens Mining Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.
“Private mines are currently devouring our countryside and backing up against residential properties. In blocking this bill, the major parties are thumbing their noses at the communities that directly feel the impact.”
Mr Simms vowed that The Greens would bring a similar Bill back to the parliament after the next election.
