Greens urge State Government to throw Shelter SA a lifeline

14 January 2026

The Greens are urging the Malinauskas Government to provide funding to SA’s peak housing body following news that Shelter SA will be closing its doors next month.

“It’s outrageous that in the middle of the worst housing crisis in generations South Australia doesn’t have a publicly funded homelessness peak body”, said Greens MLC Robert Simms.

“Every other state has a body such as this, yet South Australia is missing out. It’s time for the Government to step up and ensure that Shelter SA isn’t forced to close its doors.”
