Greens urge Malinauskas Government to make public transport free for April

30 March 2026

The Greens are urging the Malinauskas Government to follow the lead of Victoria and Tasmania and roll out free public transport for the month of April in an effort to tackle the fuel crisis.

"Momentum is building for free public transport. As South Australians struggle with skyrocketing fuel prices, free public transport is one way that governments can provide relief," said Greens MLC Robert Simms.

"Tasmania is providing free bus travel and Victoria is waiving public transport fees for a month. It's time for the Malinauskas Government to also get on board."

"We had a new public transport minister sworn in last week. They should hit the ground running by backing this initiative."

"The Greens are also urging the Government to offer increased bus services and pop-up bike lanes at this time to provide further alternatives to car travel."
