Greens urge Labor to get on board with 50 cent fares

21 September 2025

The Greens have welcomed news that the State Opposition have copied their policy for 50 cent fares and urged the Labor government to do the same.

"They say imitation is the greatest form of flattery, so naturally I welcome the Liberals adopting our popular Greens policy. This is yet another example of our party driving the political debate in our state," said Robert Simms MLC.

"After months of the Greens leading the charge on 50 cent fares, the Liberals have now backed the move. It's now over to the Government to do the same."

"50 cent fares it seems are now supported by everyone other than the Labor Party. New transport Minister Emily Burke should get on board."

In April a Greens motion moved by Mr Simms calling for 50 cent public transport fares passed the upper house. The party plans to announce their public transport policy for the March 2026 election in coming weeks.
