Greens urge Government to do more as SA temperatures soar

6 January 2026

The SA Greens are urging the Malinauskas Government to declare a ‘Tier 2 code red’ to unlock additional services and support for SA's homeless as temperatures soar across the state.

"It's going to be a scorching few days and South Australians who are experiencing homelessness will feel it the hardest," said Greens MLC Robert Simms.

"Imagine sleeping on the street when it's 40 degrees - it's really not a safe environment for anyone."

"The state government should be doing everything they can to provide assistance to these vulnerable South Australians during this heatwave – that includes unlocking additional services including overnight shelter or accommodation."

"A Tier 2 code red would provide certainty to organisations that support people experiencing homelessness and ensure that shelters are open for additional hours during this heatwave."
