Greens Urge Government to Come Clean on LIV Golf Fiasco

20 April 2026

The Greens are calling on the State Government to reveal the full business case and details of its arrangements with LIV Golf and to reinvest the $50 million it allocated to the redevelopment of North Adelaide Golf Course following reports today that the tournament is on the verge of collapse.

“The process leading to this point has been shameful. The Government began by ramming a bill to seize the Adelaide Park Lands through Parliament last year, then spent months evading repeated calls from the Greens to release the details and costs of its redevelopment plans to the public. Now that this project is set to fail, the State Government must come clean with the public.”

“At every step the Government used commercial in confidence arrangements to shield the true costs of their LIV Golf plan from taxpayers. It’s time for the State Government to reveal the full business case and details of its arrangements with LIV Golf to the public. How much has been spent so far on promotion and redevelopment? Are taxpayers liable for any costs? South Australians are footing the bill, and they deserve to know the full scale of this disaster.”

“The State Government must reinvest the millions of dollars it earmarked for this project into measures that will give people the relief from the cost-of-living crisis that they urgently need. The $50 million dollars for this Golf Course vanity project could be used to make public transport free during the fuel crisis, cutting costs for families and taking pressure off fuel supplies and prices.”

The LIV Golf plan was another shameful attack on the Adelaide Park Lands that would have seen a further loss in access to public green space and hundreds of trees chopped down.”

“This saga is another reminder of the urgent need to add the Adelaide Park Lands to the State Heritage List so that they finally receive the protections they deserve. The Park Lands must not be a land bank that the Government can raid for its vanity projects like LIV Golf.”
