The Greens SA have backed a bid for the state to host COP but say that the Malinauskas Government should show more leadership on fossil fuels.
Quotes attributable to Greens SA Co-Leader Robert Simms:
“The Greens have been calling for Adelaide to host the COP for some time and welcome this bid gaining traction, but we need to make sure that the Malinauskas Government put their money where their mouth is. Can we really host COP when our state is continuing our love affair with fossil fuels? While other states are abandoning gas SA is lagging behind and the Greens’ push to ban gas connections to new homes has been blocked by all other parties in the parliament.”
Quotes attributable to Greens SA Lead Candidate for the Legislative Council 2026 Melanie Selwood:
“South Australia should be positioning itself as a world leader by finally getting off gas and taking further climate action. It’s time for the Malinauskas Government to scrap the $35 million a year subsidies to the fossil fuel industry in this coming state budget and redirect the money to initiatives that would reduce carbon emissions – like 50 cent public transport fares. This is an amazing opportunity to showcase our state to the world, let’s make sure that we are really walking the talk.”
