Greens renew call for pill testing as new poll reveals overwhelming support

12 August 2025

The Greens have renewed their calls for the State Government to make pill testing available in SA as part of a harm minimisation approach to drugs following a new poll that reveals that public support for pill testing has surged to almost three quarters of South Australians.

The survey conducted by YouGov with the South Australian Network of Drug and Alcohol Services (SANDAS) showed 71 per cent of respondents support the introduction of pill testing/drug checking services at events and fixed sites in South Australia, with the strongest support among 18 to 24-year-olds.

“These new results demonstrate that the State Government is out of touch with community expectations when it comes to adopting a sensible approach to drugs that reduces harm,” said Greens MLC Robert Simms.

“As we approach the summer festival season, the State Government should be looking at other jurisdictions like Victoria and the ACT and rolling out similar trials in our state, rather than continuing to bury their heads in the sand. Analysing and testing drugs in this way will save lives.”
