Greens Launch State Election Campaign in Adelaide

31 January 2026

The Greens officially launched their state election campaign last night at the Queen’s Theatre at an event headlined by Greens federal leader Senator Larissa Waters. Today Senator Waters, Robert Simms MLC, and Lead Upper House candidate Melanie Selwood joined almost 100 volunteers doorknocking in Bridgewater as the party closes in on its target seat of Heysen.

Quotes attributable to Senator Larissa Waters

“Change is within reach for South Australians and the Greens campaign is off to an exciting start.

“If just 1000 people change their vote in Heysen, they will make history by putting a strong Greens voice in the Lower House that will work for them, not for corporate donors.

“More Greens in parliament and getting the balance of power in the Upper House, means holding Labor to account, and pressure for action on cost-of-living, housing, and the climate crisis so people here can get ahead.

“We will build thousands more homes delivered by a public builder. We will tackle the cost-of-living by scrapping school fees, cutting public transport fares and capping rent rises to CPI.

“We’ll stop new fossil fuel projects and end subsidies, invest in publicly owned renewables and home battery access to cut power bills, paid for by reinstating a state Big Bank Levy and making mining corporations pay their fair share.

“Only the Greens will put people before polluters and fight for renters, workers and young families.”

Quotes attributable to Robert Simms MLC

“Momentum is growing for the Greens in South Australia. From rental reforms to action on political donations and shining a light on the toxic algal bloom, we have a proven track record of delivering outcomes for the community and holding the government to account.”

“While Pauline Hanson is staging divisive stunts in Adelaide, the Greens are talking to voters about the real issues that matter.”

“There’s a real chance the Greens could secure the balance of power in the upper house on March 21. I’m so excited about what could be achieved with a bigger Greens presence in the parliament.”

Quotes attributable to Lead Upper House candidate Melanie Selwood

“Voters have a choice to vote for more of the same from the other parties, or the Greens’ bold ideas to tackle climate change and the costs of living.”

“We’ve knocked on thousands of doors this election and people are telling us they are worried about housing, the environment and the climate. We hear concerns from people that the Labor Government is wasting money on Malinauskas’ pet projects, like LIV golf, when that money could be used on solving real problems in their lives.

With more Greens MPs, we can hold Labor to account and make sure they don’t become more power-hungry.
