The Greens have called on the State Government to improve South Australia's cycling infrastructure after Police slapped almost 170 cyclists with fines amid an influx of cyclists on SA roads during the Tour Down Under.
“These statistics demonstrate that SA continues to lag behind with second-rate cycling infrastructure", said Greens Transport and Infrastructure Robert Simms MLC.
“If the Government really is concerned about the vulnerability of cyclists on the road it should invest in expanding on-road cycling infrastructure such as separated bicycle lanes and bicycle paths”, said Mr Simms.
The RAA and Bike Adelaide have both previously called for an additional $10m to be allocated to the State Bike Fund, which is less than 0.1% of the cost of the North-South Corridor upgrade.
