The Greens say the Government should dump its plans to redevelop the North Adelaide Golf Course following media reports that a LIV golf event scheduled for New Orleans has been postponed and the future of the tour hangs in the balance.
Quotes attributable to Greens Leader Robert Simms MLC:
"When the Premier announced his plans to redevelop the North Adelaide Golf Course, he was clear that this was about securing LIV Golf's future in SA. With LIV Golf's future as a whole now under a cloud, that business case has completely evaporated."
"How can the government justify spending 45 million dollars and axing hundreds of trees to redevelop a golf course for a tournament that might not even go ahead? This is pure madness and once again South Australians are being asked to foot the bill for another Labor lemon."
"It's not too late for common sense to prevail and next week when parliament resumes, I will give notice of motion calling on the government to halt this project and spend the money on cost-of-living measures that will actually help South Australians."
Quotes attributable to Incoming Greens MLC Melanie Selwood
“The proposed redevelopment includes the cutting down of 585 trees which are important habitat and canopy cover. In the middle of a climate crisis, we need to be protecting our environment, not destroying it.”
“Now that the future of LIV Golf is in doubt, Labor must ensure that no trees are cut down if the project does not go ahead.”
