Greens call for free public transport to CBD

11 February 2022

The State Government should provide free public transport to and from the city to boost foot traffic for struggling businesses, say the Greens.

"The City of Sydney are calling for this measure over in NSW and with some COVID restrictions easing in SA today, now is the time for our State Government to seize the initiative," said SA Greens spokesperson for Transport, Robert Simms MLC.

"Free public transport to and from the city would boost city visitation - helping struggling businesses while helping our environment by reducing carbon emissions.

"With the Fringe Festival just around the corner, now is the perfect time to roll out this initiative.

"The Greens have a fully costed plan to make public transport free right across the state. Free public transport to and from the CBD is an easy first step that could be taken to provide an instant boost to the city economy," Mr Simms said.
