The Greens are calling for free public transport to be extended to all South Australians, as Adelaide Metro fares increase from today.
According to the Transport Affordability Index, the move could save the average South Australian family up to $468 a week.
Quotes attributable to Robert Simms MLC:
“This week, South Australians are reeling from another interest rate hike, and from today they’ll be slugged with higher public transport fares as the Malinauskas Government’s CPI freeze comes to an end.”
“Rather than sinking millions of dollars into vanity projects like the failed LIV Golf and the unwanted MotoGP, they could be providing free public transport and meaningful cost of living relief.”
“We also know the City of Adelaide is having discussions on how to bring more people back into the city. Free public transport would certainly be welcomed by many CBD businesses.”
“We know free public transport can work. We know it can provide real savings for households, and we know the Malinauskas Government can make it happen.”
