Greens call for answers on Government’s ‘kindergarten cops’ plan

29 August 2024

The State Government must provide more detail on its plan (as reported by the ABC) to use children to catch out retailers who are illegally selling vapes and tobacco to minors, say the SA Greens.

“The Greens are supportive of the Government’s desire to stop vapes and tobacco being made available to children, but we have concerns about the potential use of kids in sting operations,” said Greens Health Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.

“This kindergarten cops scheme raises serious questions: will the children be paid for their work, how will their safety be assured? How will they be recruited? Are these children really in a position to understand the risks associated with this kind of activity?”

“These are the sorts of questions the government must answer before this plan is progressed.”
