The Greens have renewed calls for the State Government to boost its investment in public housing and introduce rent capping as yet another report reveals the extent of SA's rent crisis.
According to a report released by the University of South Australia today, SA has the tightest rental market in the country with a vacancy rate of 0.2 per cent.
"The state government must move urgently to address this crisis. Their plan to build just 400 new public homes is well short of what's required and there's been no action on skyrocketing rents," said the SA Greens housing spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.
"America, Canada, Ireland and Spain all have rent control systems in place. It's time for SA to do the same to stop rents from soaring further out of control."
