The Greens have slammed the State Government's approval of new guidelines for a second skyscraper on Festival Plaza.
The proposed 38-story tower will be even taller than the existing Walker Tower and include a “glass foyer” to provide views between Parliament House and Festival Plaza.
"There's only one thing worse than one skyscraper overshadowing Parliament House and that's two skyscrapers," said Greens Planning Spokesperson Robert Simms MLC.
“The approval of these design guidelines demonstrates that the State Government and their failed planning system are simply not up to the task of protecting heritage values and the interests of the community. It’s absurd that the Government believes that carving a small piece out of this skyscraper to provide a view of Parliament’s façade will make up for the huge loss of public space and heritage value that will come with its construction.”
“It's very saddening that once again, our planning system is serving the interests of developers rather than the community."
