The Greens are calling for the State Government to beef up public transport infrastructure as part of its preparation for major events like Gather Round.
"World class events require world class public transport infrastructure. These events are a great opportunity to showcase our state, but unfortunately our public transport infrastructure is simply not up to scratch," said Greens Transport Spokesperson, Robert Simms MLC.
"A regional train network taking commuters and tourists to places like the Barossa and Mount Barker would help connect the city to the regions. This would be particularly valuable in areas that have limited or no service from cabs and ride share like Ubers."
"This investment would be a real boost for events like Gather Round in the regions and provide a long term economic and community benefit."
In February, State Parliament’s Committee on Public and Active Transport recommended that regional rail be reactivated for SA.
