“The Premier is really good at landing sporting deals, but I wish he would focus on landing deals with our nurses.
The Greens welcome more activities and events for South Australia, but Labor has got to get the basics right too. We are seeing this announcement at a time when our nurses are fighting for fair pay and conditions, we have a health system in crisis and more people sleeping on the streets than ever before.
The Government should also reveal the true costs associated with this event. When we are talking about public money, there should be maximum transparency and as much information as possible should be put on the public record. Labor continues to use “commercial in confidence” as a shield to hide the real costs of its events program from the public.
This Labor Government has a terrible track record when it comes to managing our parklands and heritage. The Greens will be examining the details of the proposal carefully to ensure that there isn’t damage done to the iconic Victoria Park Grandstand.
I am also concerned about the loss of trees, and the Greens want to ensure that we won’t be seeing yet another large-scale destruction of trees in the middle of this climate crisis.
Finally, this event will involve significant road closures and November will now be car and motorbike month in Adelaide. The Greens will be urging the next State Government to invest in public transport and cycling infrastructure to try to ease congestion. Something that’s been severely lacking over the last 4 years under Labor.”
