13 November 2025

The Greens have secured a slew of amendments to the Government’s local government and TAFE bills alongside a commitment to review local heritage protections as State Parliament enters its final weeks.

Key points:

  • A Greens amendment to the Local Government Elections Review Bill will require candidates who are pooling their campaign funds for the purpose of campaigning to disclose this information to the public.
  • The Greens’ amendments to the TAFE SA Bill will ensure that the TAFE board must include a person nominated following consultation SA Unions as well as a TAFE staff member nominated following consultation with their relevant unions.
  • The Greens also reached agreement with the State Government for the Minister for Planning to investigate heritage demolition controls and include this in next year’s Housing Roadmap.

Quotes Attributable to Greens SA MLC Robert Simms:

“Enabling voters to see if local government election candidates are running together on a ‘ticket’ by pooling their campaign funds will make local government elections fairer and more transparent. This is a big win for accountability in our democracy.”

“Including members of staff and their unions on the Board of TAFE SA will ensure that their valuable perspectives are reflected in its management and ensure that TAFE remains focused on working in the public interest to deliver high-quality tertiary education.”

“Finally, this investigation into providing further protection against the demolition of heritage properties provides an opportunity to ensure increase protections for our iconic buildings.”

“This weeks’ wins provide another example of the Greens working constructively with the Government to deliver positive outcomes for our community in a range of different policy areas.”
