The Greens have urged the State Government to step up and show leadership on climate change following today’s announcement that Australia is no longer in the running to host CoP in Adelaide next year.
Quotes attributable to Greens MLC Robert Simms
“It’s profoundly disappointing that Adelaide will not be hosting CoP. The onus now falls on the State Government to show leadership and strengthen SA’s credentials on climate action.”
“If the Premier is serious about a second bid, we need to step up on climate action. Yesterday the Greens released a raft of policy proposals aimed at reducing emissions and accelerating our state’s progress to achieving net-zero. This would be a good place for the Government to start.”
Quotes attributable to Greens Upper House Candidate Melanie Selwood
“If Labor wants to talk the talk on climate action it needs to walk the walk. South Australia could have been a stronger contender to host CoP, but Labor simply hasn’t got the climate action credentials for the world stage.”
“South Australia has a proud history of leadership on the environment and renewable energy, but under this Government we are at risk of falling behind. The Greens are campaigning for the bold, transformative action that we need to cement SA as a world leader in tackling the climate crisis”.
