Greens SA members have selected Adelaide Hills Council Deputy Mayor Melanie Selwood to lead their Upper House ticket for the next state election.
In September, long-serving MLC Tammy Franks announced that she would retiring at the next state election. If elected in March 2026, Melanie Selwood will join ongoing Greens Robert Simms MLC in the state Upper House.
About Melanie:
- Melanie grew up in the Adelaide Hills, where she lives with her husband and two kids.
- She is a former arts manager, project manager, business consultant and small business owner. She has been a local councillor at Adelaide Hills Council since 2022 and became Deputy Mayor in May 2024. She has played a significant role in achieving positive outcomes for the Adelaide Hills community.
- Melanie has been an active volunteer for Trees for Life, Oxfam, the World Wildlife Fund, the Lobethal Community Association and her local school and kindergarten.
- Melanie’s experience living through the 2019 bushfires strengthened her commitment to fighting climate change and inequality in her local community.
